Rentsent was conceived by a couple of students and roommates at Tufts University. Many other products have a similar premise, but none help you manage and share Owes in a truly collaborative manner.
We have been in shared living situations or group events/payments where one person is designated responsible. This is the person who will benefit the most from rentsent - and give them a chance to get away from notepads, whiteboards, spreadsheets and one-off emails.
We feel that transparency and communication are the keys to making finances the simplest part of your shared living situation - and that you will see the benefits of it right away:

At rentsent, we take managing finances seriously, but we realize that certain situations call for more diligence than others. For this reason, we've created rentsent as a flexible product that will help with the simplest things, but still have powerful features for those users that need a higher level of control.
Another way we differ is that we have a strong penchant for our users' privacy. Many free services leverage their users' data to promote parter "products and services" or deliver targeted advertising. At rentsent, anything you enter into the system is used only within the application. We do not share any personal info, do not store any unnecessary user data, and do not use any of the information you enter for marketing purposes.
